YAY! I was dying for this recap. And you're right. I can't see blaming Alyssa as she was ALL class. Ms. Coco on the other hand... I'm so over her drama. I might dislike her attitude more than I disliked Tyra's. I just want to see these talented queens do what they do. Enough with the defensive posturing. So thanks again for a wonderful recap, darling!

Oh, I've been waiting for this recap, and you didn't disappoint (not that you ever do!). Yes, Alyssa did win that lipsynch fair and square. As soon as our lovely Ivy said that her plan was to stay in one spot so they could look at her face, I knew she was going home.

Said by me: "As soon as our lovely Ivy said that her plan was to stay in one spot so they could look at her face, I knew she was going home."

Hmmm, that came out wrong! Sorry, that was pre-coffee, I did *not* mean that the way it sounded. I didn't mean that that Ivy's face isn't gorgeous, because it is. What I meant was, as soon as she made the decision not to move around the stage and really work it, I knew she was going home.

I need to not post until lunchtime when I've had a few cups of caffeine already....

Every time I see Alaska's "overpriced" grimace, I crack up. I think you're right how Alaska (and maybe possibly Jinkx too) have been smart about how to craft their persona as a reality television contestant. It's about appearing natural and giving a narrative arc or character turn through the development of the show. So you need to fall or fail at some point through the game and then make a triumphant return to form or leap of faith.

This seems to be lost on someone like Detox. Maybe she wasn't expecting to come in with a "front runner" label, and figuring out how to develop beyond it a task too tough to overcome? All I can say, is she's really worn out the lingerie looks. She's certainly striking, but I don't know that I'm feeling any great "GLAM" looks from her that are notable.

My only misgiving is now that the Ivy vs. Jinkx LSFYL won't come to fruition (pours rhinestones on the pavement for a fallen queen), they're poised to off either Jinkx or Alaska as a wig to wig lip synch. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Unfortunately, with Ivy this week her gown reveal seemed to work in reverse. If it were me (and we all assume this in our own worlds, amirite?), I would have come out with the traditional beige gown from the start, say your spiel, spray fragrance and then reverse edited the reveal to end in the sequined (YOU HEAR ME ROXXXY?!) mini-dress look for a style change.

The least I can say about Coco the better (I'm really scared she's this season's Phi Phi), but WTF with that "hair" girl? It reeks of the looks that Yara Sophia was known for (and not in a good way). I'll go on the record that I never took to Srta. Sophia's look because those hair pieces were just too much. Every time I see a piece with that type of texture I hear my sixth grade home-ec teacher serving up this gem:

"Protein is what your hair and nails are made out of; and if you don't get enough protein, it looks like cats have been sucking on your hair!"

All we need is one more flub from one of the queens I'm now officially rooting against. I can't believe we have to wait a whole TWO WEEKS for a new episode and glorious recap. Oh well, I shall certainly stay tuned!

I agree, Sara--for me, the fighting runs a narrow gamut between irritating and stressful. I couldn't even *deal* with Untucked this week, which is why I skipped it in the recap entirely. Ugh.

(That said: I re-watched that Untucked with a friend who is a mental health counselor. As she watched Coco and Jinkx go at it, she observed, "That's sleep-deprivation-fighting. Those two just need sleep, a lot more sleep than they're getting." It gives me a starting point for sympathy for Coco--people who aren't sleeping aren't themselves. STILL, THOUGH.)

Lisa, I knew exactly what you meant, and I did exactly the same thing. By halfway through the LSFYL, I was gritting my teeth and whisper-screaming at the television, "Come on, Ivy, you are fiercer than that." Because she is!

JiveHonkey, I'm not sure about Alaska crafting a persona/narrative per se, so much as simply crafting a strategy for not getting immediately labeled a stunt-casting, compared unfavorably to Sharon, and sent home. A less-savvvy queen in Alaska's position would have borne that fate.

I haven't written an essay about her yet or anything, but I've been thinking a lot about Detox the last few weeks. She spent last season watching one of her best friends cakewalk through the competition (after all, before the DQ, Willam had the second-best record after Sharon), and must have figured, "I can do that too." But this is a really, really competitive year, and where Detox might have cleaned up on another season, this season has a couple untouchable queens in almost every drag discipline. Detox is almost too well-rounded: funny, but not the funniest; polished, but not always the most-polished; a fierce runway walker, but not the only glamazon stomping the stage. If she's frustrated, it's justified: this season's competition is stiff.

(Okay, I guess now I've written an essay about Detox. I hope she gets more screen time in the next couple episodes--she's really become one of the kindest, coolest personalities this season.)

Yay, I always enjoy these recaps. Loved my faves - Alaska and Jinkx - as per usual but Detox was great too, they really are definitely my top three. I can't believe we have to wait so. long. for the next episode!
I just want to chime in about Detox... I really like her but I do feel like she's kind of phoning it in a tad. She was good this week (maybe the sign of things to come?) but in the past she's come across as not putting 100% into things. Now I don't know if it is, as you've said, that she's more of a jill of all trades, but I do think she could be doing better. From what I've heard about the 9 minute preview, it sounds as if this is one of the motifs of the next ep so it'll be interesting to see what we're saying about Detox in (sob) two weeks' time.

JiveHonkey said: "Every time I see Alaska's 'overpriced' grimace, I crack up."

Oh, honey, I was *crying* during that face, I laughed so hard! The combo of the grimace and the way she kind of does that "I dunno!" shrug along with it just killed me! I think Jinkx, Alaska and Detox had the funniest commercials that truly made me laugh out loud. I re-watched the ep again last night (because that's how I roll), and as much as I adore and love our Jinkxy, Alaska totally deserved that long-overdue win. I could laugh myself silly watching that GIF of her faces all the live long day.

While we all expect a little fighting in our reality TV, Coco is really getting to be too much for me. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to April 1, because I saw clip #2 of the preview over at LOGO, and I am loving that Jinkx stands up to her. I think aside from Jinkx hopefully winning this whole season, my favorite moment so far is going to be "I am TALKING!" Because - yeah, girl! Shut her down!

I personally am over Coco and Roxxxy... Whenever they don't do well they blame the other queens, especially Jinkx, and it pisses me off!! Honey, the T is you didn't hack it! Tighten your tuck, hide your damn bra straps,re-glue your eyelashes and give it your best next week. Don't destroy another queen because of your let down. That's why I was so happy to see Vivienne go, because, girl, it ain't Roxxxy's fault you think you can rest on pretty in a DRAG COMPETITION! My top three hopes are resting on Alyssa, Alaska and Jinkx. But I'm totally team Monsoon! :)
